Holtmeier Construction has begun work on a utility replacement project on Broadway Avenue. The work includes storm sewer improvements beginning at Chestnut Street and Washington Avenue and continuing west to parking lot at the northwest of the High School property. Additional work scheduled includes installation of new 12” water main from the Broadway Water Plant to Seventh Street. Sanitary sewer work will be completed from Seventh Street to Lincoln Drive.

The contractor has indicated they plan to start with two major construction crews. The first crew will begin with the storm sewer at Chestnut Street and proceeding west. The second crew will be completing water main improvements on Broadway Avenue starting at the new Broadway Water Treatment Plant and working east towards Sunrise Drive where they will eventually connect to the existing water main at 7th Street.

Broadway Avenue will be closed to through traffic during this time. Detours have been established and signed. During the first phase of construction detoured traffic from the west will use County Road 20/Nicollet Avenue (north) to Traverse Road to Washington Avenue. Traffic from the east will proceed north on Washington Avenue to Traverse Road and west to County Road 20/Nicollet Avenue.

Access to Saint Peter High School will be available on Grace Street as Lincoln Drive will revert to two-way traffic during the construction period.

Access to the Catholic Church will be available along the north detour route of Washington Avenue to Traverse Road to Nicollet Avenue.

Local access for homeowners along the route is allowed but through traffic will not be allowed as the street surface will be removed. City inspectors will be on-site or you may contact the Public Works Department at 934-0670 or valeriet@saintpetermn.gov if you have questions or concerns. Construction is expected to continue through the end of August 2010.
